What are you worth?
Our industry has been turned upside down. I might be bold in saying we knew it was coming. For a long time now our society has been going with the flow and as things have been continually going downhill we’ve just been going along with it. Unfortunately, only dead fish should go with the flow.
We have seen our industry on the front pages of our local and national papers. We have been the topic of many discussions on multiple television shows with every opinion out there for all to see and hear. What are we doing to make sure that we are heard? Like you, I have been working through all of these complex regulations with my clients. They are starving for good information that is easy for them to understand and to which they can relate. I think we all have our noses to the grindstone day in and day out. We are worried that the world as we know it is crumbling right in front of us. We are scrambling to figure out how to pull away from the pack and do something that maybe the agent down the street is not doing. Our clients see what we do every day for them but what about those people that are without representation?

If we cannot adapt and roll with the punches, it’s time to look for a new career. If you are tired of sitting here taking all of the blows day after day, then it’s time to get involved and do something about it. You become the expert. Get out there and meet with people in your community. Meet with your government representatives on both the federal and state levels. Make them realize what you do for their voters. Don’t be afraid, you do this for a living, they do not. You have real stories of how you have helped your clients. This is what they need to hear.
In Iowa we have options, accessibility, and affordable premiums, which unfortunately a lot of people don’t even know exist. WE have to show them the way. An information exchange will not solve the problems of knowing the difference between all of the options. There will certainly be people out there that have no idea what plan would work best for their situation and end up on a plan that could be devastating to them.
